POLICY STATEMENT:  The Livingston Public Library adopts and adheres to Livingston Township ordinances regarding smoking in and around the Library.

APPLICATION:  This Policy concerns patron and staff rights and responsibilities.

PROCEDURES FOR IMPLEMENTATION: The Livingston Public Library Board of Trustees hereby adopts Township Ordinance #257-1, et seq., which prohibits smoking in government buildings, work places, and in places accessible to the general public.  The Ordinance specifically prohibits smoking in public places, including but not limited to libraries, and in all areas of government buildings, and on any Township property located within 500 feet of any elementary or secondary educational institution, which includes the Library.  The Ordinance also prohibits smoking within 50 feet of entranceways, and/or entrance doors to buildings used by the public, thus making all outdoor entranceways/doors of buildings used by the public, including the Library, smoke-free.

Definition - For purposes of this policy and as defined in the Ordinance, smoking includes Inhaling, exhaling, burning or carrying any lighted cigarette, cigar, pipe, weed, plant or other combustible substances in any manner or any form.

Posting Notices -  In accordance with the provisions of the Ordinance, the Library shall post no-smoking signs or the international no-smoking symbol in conspicuous  locations throughout the Library.

ENFORCEMENT/IMPLEMENTATION:  The Director is responsible for implementing and enforcing this Policy with the assistance of Library staff.
