MUSEUM PASS POLICY

POLICY STATEMENT:  The Library offers a Museum Pass Program as an additional outlet through which the Library can build on its mission to serve as a center of education, recreation, information and culture by providing patrons with the opportunity to obtain free access to select museums.

APPLICATION:  This Policy governs patron rights and responsibilities.

PROCEDURES FOR IMPLEMENTATION:  Under the Museum pass program (“Museum Pass”), the Library will purchase memberships to selected area museums and  receive and make available to eligible patrons a limited number of passes to these museums, which allow Library patrons admission to the museum free of charge.

Museum Selection Criteria - The Library Administration will select which museums will be part of Museum Pass based on the following criteria:

Museum must offer Library membership;

Relevance to the community; and

Cost of membership.

The selection of participating museums will be reviewed periodically, but at least annually, by the Library Administration.

Eligibility - Persons wishing to borrow a museum pass from the Library must meet the following eligibility criteria:

Must be a Livingston resident, 18 years or older, and possess a Livingston Public Library card, or may be a non-resident, who is 18 years or older and has purchased a current pay card; and

Must be a Library patron in good standing with no outstanding fines or fees.

Rules of Use - Each patron may borrow only one museum pass at a time.  The borrowed pass must be returned before another pass may be checked out.

Each patron may borrow a pass to any one (1) museum no more than once in any thirty-day period.  Passes may not be renewed.

Passes may be borrowed for up to three (3) days.  For example, a pass picked up on Sunday must be returned to the Library by closing time on the following Wednesday.

A patron may reserve a pass by phone to be picked up the same day during regular Library hours of operation.  Passes will also be available on a first-come, first-served walk-in basis.  Passes may be picked up only by the reserving patron, who must present his/her valid library card.  No online reservations will be accepted.

If the patron reserved a museum pass by phone and has not picked it up by Library closing time that same day, the reservation shall be forfeited.

Passes must be picked up from, and returned to the Circulation Desk.  Passes may not be returned in the Book Drops.

The patron must sign a copy of this Livingston Public Library Museum Pass Policy before checking out a museum pass for the first time.  The patron’s signature indicates that he/she has read, understood and agrees to abide by the rules and regulations of this policy.

Patrons are responsible for calling or checking the museum websites directly for hours of operation, current exhibits, parking or directions.  Each museum determines the rules and regulations governing the use of its museum pass.  The museum pass may not provide admission to all exhibits at the museum.

Fines and Fees - The Library will impose the following fines if a museum pass is returned late, or is damaged, stolen or lost:

Late fines are $5.00 per day.  The maximum late fine is $20.

For damaged, lost or stolen pass, patrons will be charged a fine equal to the full fee the participating museum charges to replace the Library’s membership card plus an additional $25.00 processing fee.

Funding And Duration of Museum Pass - The Museum Pass Program is funded by the Friends of the Livingston Library, and the Library may terminate or modify this Program at any time if the Friends do not provide the funds necessary to continue the Program for any reason.

ENFORCEMENT/IMPLEMENTATION:  The Director is responsible for implementing and enforcing this Policy.
