Adult Services Librarian

The Livingston Public Library has an opening for the position of Full Time Adult Services Librarian. This position will work in the Adult Services department for 35 hours a week, including an evening and weekend hours.

Responsibilities will include a full range of duties in the Adult Services

Department: Advanced digital marketing, maintaining a strong social media presence, creating content (both digital and print), assisting customers with computer troubleshooting, answering reference questions, creating and assisting with library programs, providing readers’ advisory, collection development, and other tasks as needed.

Part Time Custodian

The Livingston Public Library is seeking an experienced part time Custodian to join our team. We are looking for a detail-oriented person who is passionate about maintaining the Library as a beautiful, welcoming destination for all Livingston residents. 

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director and direction of the Lead Custodian performs routine tasks involved in the cleaning and maintenance of the building and grounds.

This is a 15 to 21 hours per week position and includes weekday, night and weekend hours. Sunday hours in July will be required.  All employees are members of the NJ PERS pension plan. Pro-rated paid time off is included. New Jersey residency is required within one year of the date of hire.  $17.19 per hour.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Regular cleaning and maintenance of the building and grounds
Ensuring that bathrooms and kitchens are properly supplied with paper goods, soaps, etc.
Opening and closing the Library building
Setting up and breaking down tables and chairs for Library events
Emptying the indoor and outdoor book drops
Maintaining the safe condition of steps and entrances by salting and/or sanding and removal of snow and ice when necessary
Directing outside contractors, repairmen, plumbers, electricians and all other workers when they visit the library to do repairs, maintenance, etc. in the absence of the Lead Custodian and Assistant Director
Additional duties may be assigned

REQUIREMENTS:
High School diploma required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Minimum of 3 to 5 years building management required.
Working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems.
A valid New Jersey driver’s license.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Dependability; ability to work flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and on-call hours.
Ability to make decisions independently.
Ability to lift, push, pull and carry 65 lbs. or less on a routine basis. Climb stairs and ladders.

Part Time Library Assistant

The Livingston Public Library serves a culturally diverse community of 27,000+ residents.  The Library is seeking 2 enthusiastic and outgoing individuals to join our team as part-time Library Assistants. The individuals are people who strive to offer our community excellent customer service and must be friendly, professional, and efficient. Excellent communication and computer skills are a must.  The successful candidates must be able to perform a wide-range of  clerical, paraprofessional tasks, and other support duties.  

These are part-time positions of approximately 19 hours per week including evening, weekend, and daytime hours.

DESCRIPTION
Possess a demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service by being attentive, approachable, kind and helpful
Inspire a connection to all facets of the library by introducing customers to all we do: programs, collections, resources and much more
Manage patron accounts, checking materials in and out, provide basic readers’ advisory, answering phones, processing reserves, and collecting fines, and answer basic reference and directional questions
Is a team member who welcomes and accepts input; seeks out advice on how to handle situations and supports team members by keeping them informed and offering help
Assist in the Library’s social media presence with strong writing skills
Assist with basic computer troubleshooting
Handles fines and fees and reconciles money
Assist in library programs as needed
Performs other duties as needed

REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of basic arithmetic
Ability to converse, speaking clearly, concisely, and courteously
Ability to comprehend and follow written and/or oral one-or-two step instructions
Computer literacy skill set (Office Suite, email, internet research, social media)
Ability to lift, push, pull and carry 25-40 lbs on a routine basis

A high school diploma or equivalent, along with some relevant library work and/or other work experiences are required.  Past experience in a library setting a plus.
